Plastic Waste in Fast Fashion Awareness Campaign

Under the Cavendish Living Lab at the University of Westminster, I planned and delivered an awareness campaign on several Westminster campuses informing students of the impacts of fast fashion.

I also delivered an activity which consisted of asking people to write how they view fast fashion and sustainability on a piece of recycled fabric scrap and add it on a mannequin to later be sewn into a garment.

In addition I have developed a questionnaire to find out more on fast fashion consumerism to give us a strong base for our following initiatives.

It is important to raise awareness for plastic waste in fast fashion as most people do not have knowledge of its harms.

Chemicals such as lead and phthalates are used in fast fashion clothing to which the exposure has been proven to affect health such as increasing likelihood of childhood asthma and affecting fertility – Good on you; Toxic Chemicals in Fast Fashion Could Be Harming Your Health.

My work with the Cavendish Living Lab has enabled me to learn and share my knowledge with others. If you are interested by our sustainable initiatives don’t hesitate to check our instagram and website, and check out my personal web page on sustainable fashion.
